Registration of Boiler under boilers act
The Indian Boiler Act of 1923 requires that new boilers be registered and certified under the act. This process involves the following steps:
- Application: Submit an application through the Boiler Information System (BIS), the Department of Factories and Boilers’ online platform. The application should include drawings, specifications, certificates, and other required information.
- Inspection: The boiler is inspected and a Memorandum of Inspection Book (M.B) is prepared. The inspector also checks the design of the pipeline, material specifications, gradient, drainage, support, and safety valve capacity.
- Calculations: Calculations are made for the boiler’s pressure parts in accordance with the Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR) of 1950.
- Provisional Order: A Provisional Order (P.O.) is issued for a maximum of six months, allowing the boiler to operate at its maximum working pressure.
- Steam test: Within the validity of the P.O., the boiler owner must submit the boiler for a steam test. If the test is satisfactory, a certificate is issued for a period of 12 months.
Required documents
- IBR documents: These include Form-II, Form-III, and Form-IVA.
- Boiler drawings: These should be original drawings of the boiler.
- Certificates: These include certificates of all mounting and fittings, pressure parts, and the welder's certificate.
- Other documents: These include welding consumables certificates, contractor approval, and welding procedure specification approval.
