License under Pawn Broker Act

Here are some other things to know about the Pawn Broker Act:

  • If you are a pawnbroker who is part of an undivided joint family, the license must be obtained in the name of the manager or Kartha.
  • If you are part of an association of individuals that isn’t required to be registered under the Indian Companies Act, 1956, each individual must obtain a separate license in their name.
  • If you have more than one shop or place of business, you need to get a separate license for each location.
  • Your license is valid for five years and can be renewed.
  • When applying for a license, you must include the name of a nominee who is solvent and of good character. If you are granted a license and then surrender it or die, your nominee can continue to operate the business until any pawned items are redeemed or disposed of.
